Factors Influencing Patients to Decide to Discharge Themselves against Medical Advice at Tertiary Hospitals: A Cross-Sectional Study

Background: Discharged against medical advice (DAMA) is defined as any instance when a patient wants to leave the hospital managing physician’s decision. This study aimed identify factors that influence patients decide be DAMA. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study. The was conducted in emergency department (ED) of King Fahad Medical City (KFMC)-Saudi Arabia-Riyadh city. questionnaire both Arabic and English distributed all participants fill either or Arabic. Results: Between 1 March 30 April 2021, 510 responses were collected. Most (31.4%) over age 54. Our findings showed 12.5% our had taken discharge past. Results Regarding Factors That Influence Patients Decide on DAMA Showed: Inappropriate behavior disrespect physician staff his relatives, 262 (51.4%) participants, 85 (16.7%) 163 (32%) agreed, neutral, disagreed, respectively. Lack physicians’ nurses’ attention relatives (emotionally), result 278 (54.5%) 95 (18.6%) 137 (26.9%) disagree, failure inform condition, it 257 (50.4%) 158 (31%) feeling better from DAMA, 226 (44.3%) 119 (23.3%) 165 (32.4%) patients’ their relative’s tiredness stay, 166 (32.5%) 104 (20.4%) 240 (47.1%) Conclusion: long wait time seen by major factor forced advice.
